With every generation, Apple’s Max-series chips have pushed the boundaries of performance, and M4 Max in the new Mac Studio delivers the most significant leap yet in performance.
Apple’s custom silicon has evolved dramatically, with each new generation improving performance, efficiency, and capability. The M1 Max, M2 Max, and M4 Max represent three iterations of Apple’s most powerful chips for MacBook Pro, each refining the balance between speed and power consumption.
Microsoft announced on the last day of February that it would sunset Skype. By the time the death knell tolled, the video chatting software that once revolutionized communications had become a ghost of its former self. Experts chimed in with half-hearted eulogies for the platform that Microsoft spent years neglecting, yet few were surprised, and even fewer shed tears.
“The fact that Skype was never integrated into any other Microsoft platform, nor redesigned to resemble other Microsoft solutions or included in any bundled commercial offerings – despite its loss of users – was a clear indication that Microsoft had long decided to discontinue the service,” said Gianvito Lanzolla, a professor of strategy, at University of London.
The proposal, filed Friday afternoon, says that Google must “promptly and fully divest Chrome, along with any assets or services necessary to successfully complete the divestiture, to a buyer approved by the Plaintiffs in their sole discretion, subject to terms that the Court and Plaintiffs approve.” It also would require Google to stop paying partners for preferential treatment of its search engine.
Apple has won a significant legal victory against medical device maker AliveCor. Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld the invalidity of patents that could have blocked Apple Watch imports. This ruling, reported by Reuters, could bring an end to a years-long dispute that began when AliveCor accused Apple of infringing its heart-monitoring technology— a case that once threatened the availability of certain Apple Watch models in the U.S.
The case stems from AliveCor’s 2021 complaint to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), where it claimed Apple violated three patents tied to its KardiaBand, an Apple Watch accessory designed to monitor heart rates, detect irregularities, and perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) to spot conditions like atrial fibrillation. AliveCor argued that Apple copied this technology starting with the Series 4 Apple Watch and later sabotaged KardiaBand’s functionality by altering iOS compatibility, effectively pushing AliveCor out of the market. The company sought an import ban on infringing Apple Watches as a remedy.
A worker at a DVD and Blu-ray manufacturing and distribution company used by major movie studios was arrested today in Memphis, Tennessee, for allegedly stealing DVDs and Blu-rays of blockbuster movies from the company and selling them before their official scheduled release dates. A digital copy of at least one of the stolen Blu-rays was illegally distributed tens of millions of times over the internet, causing the copyright owner tens of millions of dollars in losses.
According to court documents, Steven R. Hale, 37, of Memphis, worked for a multinational company that, among other things, manufactured and distributed DVDs and Blu-rays of movies. From approximately February 2021 to March 2022, Hale allegedly stole numerous “pre-release” DVDs and Blu-rays, that is, discs being prepared for commercial distribution in the United States and not available for sale to the public.
Apple One has existed for over five years, and during that time its basic tiered structure hasn’t changed. But due to recent updates, and ones just around the corner, Apple is making its high-end ‘Premier’ tier harder to resist.
