Although the future of TikTok remains uncertain, the app continues to get new features. The latest is called Security Checkup, which is a centralized dashboard designed to help you protect your account.

You can find the tool by going to Settings and privacy > Security & permissions in the TikTok app. The idea behind Security Checkup is to make it easy for you to do things like link a phone number and email address to make sure you have a backup login method, turn on two-factor authentication, set up a passkey and enable biometric login options such as facial recognition.

Yesterday, Apple announced that it will be supporting RCS Universal Profile 3.0 in “future software updates.” While this does have one large benefit of bringing end-to-end encryption to iPhone usersusing RCS, it has a number of other benefits that aren’t yet being mentioned.

iOS 18 uses a dated version of RCS

When Apple introduced RCS messaging to iPhone as part of iOS 18, it supported version 2.4. This still introduced a number of quality of life improvements for texting Android users, such as higher quality images, read receipts, and more – but it still missed out on a lot.

Chinese Hackers Sat Undetected in Small Massachusetts Power Utility for Months

In late 2023, the general manager of a Massachusetts public utility company got a surprising phone call. It was an FBI agent, who told him that the Littleton Electric Light and Water Departments (LELWD) were being hacked.

Nick Lawler tells The Register that he initially thought it was a scam. But a notorious Chinese-state sponsored hacking group known as Volt Typhoon had indeed breached LELWD and was poking around its systems for over 300 days.

At the time, LELWD had been installing sensors from cybersecurity firm Dragos with the help of Department of Energy grants awarded by the American Public Power Association (APPA). ”The sensors helped LELWD confirm the extent of the malicious activity on the system and pinpoint when and where the attackers were going on the utility’s networks,” the APPA said last year.

How to turn on Siri in macOS without sending your Contacts to Apple

How to turn on Siri in macOS without sending your Contacts to Apple

To use Siri on macOS, there’s a requirement to send Apple your contacts. Here’s how to avoid handing that data over to Apple.

If you have enabled Siri in System Settings in macOS, you may have noticed an alert that warns you turning Siri on will result in macOS sending your contacts, location, and voice data to Apple.

This is a ridiculous requirement by Apple, and in fact it flies in the face of Apple’s claims of respecting user privacy. For obvious reasons, you might not want all your contacts sent to Apple.

Nonetheless, if you want to use Siri in macOS Sequoia it’s required.
