Yesterday, analyst Jeff Pu said Apple’s first two foldable devices will enter mass production in the second half of 2026. Today, he provided some additional details about these devices, which are expected to launch in 2026 or 2027.

In a research note with investment firm GF Securities, Pu said the two devices will include a foldable iPhone with a 7.8-inch inner display, along with a larger foldable device with an 18.8-inch display. He described the larger foldable as a MacBook-iPad hybrid, and he believes that the device will likely run macOS, rather than iPadOS.

Jeff Pu has shared a report repeating several rumors, including Ming-Chi Kuo’s earlier report suggesting all iPhone 17 models would get Apple’s custom Wi-Fi chips.
Apple debuted the C1 modem with the iPhone 16e in February 2025. Rumors suggest the C1 will be limited to Apple’s iPhone 17 Slim, but a new Wi-Fi chip that supports Wi-Fi 7 will be used in all new models.
The shift to in-house chips has been rumored by Ming-Chi Kuo since at least October 2024, but he’s been more confident about it in more recent reports. According to a research note seen by MacRumors, analyst Jeff Pu has now repeated that rumor.

Previous rumors have suggested Apple is working on a foldable iPad Pro, and a new rumor today claims that one of Apple’s prototypes for the device features under-display Face ID technology.

According to Weibo-based leaker Digital Chat Station, one of Apple’s engineering prototypes features an 18.8-inch foldable screen with a ”metal superstructure lens” that integrates the receiver and transmitter components of Face ID for under-display facial recognition. The leaker provided no other information.

Face ID has long been an integral part of the iPhone, but it requires a sizable Dynamic Island at the top of the display. While this design is a significant improvement over the notch, it still appears outdated compared to modern smartphones. Apple is now reportedly planning to refine the design by introducing under-display Face ID.
Future iPhone Pro models will likely feature under-display Face ID within the next few years, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. As part of this transition, Apple reportedly plans to move ”some components” of the Dynamic Island beneath the screen, aligning with its goal of reducing the feature’s size and delivering an ”uninterrupted screen.”

Camera Control had a rocky start when the iPhone 16 launched. Early reviews found the button overly complicated and finicky, sometimes feeling more like a gimmick than the tentpole feature Apple pitched it as. I didn’t have the best first impressions of Camera Control either, but that’s completely changed in the six months since I got my iPhone 16 Pro.
