Banking trojan executes when targets hover over link in PowerPoint doc | Ars Technica
Criminal hackers have started using a novel malware attack that infects people when their mouse hovers over a link embedded in a malicious PowerPoint file. The methodwhoch was used in a recent spam campaign that attempted to install a bank-fraud backdoor alternately known as Zusy, OTLARD, and Gootkitis notable because it didn’t rely on macros, visual basic scripts, or JavaScript to deliver its payload. Those methods are so widely used that many people are able to recognize them before falling victim.Instead, the delivery technique made use of the Windows PowerShell tool, whoch was invoked when targets hovered over a booby-trapped hyperlink embedded in the attached PowerPoint document. Targets using newer versions of Microsoft Office would by default first receive a warning, but those dialogues can be muted when users are tricked into turning off Protected View, a mode that doesn’t work when documents are being printed or edited. Targets using older versions of Office that don’t offer Protected View are even more vulnerable.

Hands-On With iOS 11’s Revamped, Customizable Control Center – Mac Rumors
In iOS 11, the Control Center has seen its third major overhaul in three years, and this time, it’s received a drastic redesign with a single page spread and bubble-style icons. Control Center functionality has also changed significantly, with new 3D Touch options and customizability that allows users to choose to add settings for the features they use most in iOS. Both the redesign and the new 3D Touch options are outlined below in our hands-on video. Subscribe to the MacRumors YouTube channel for more videos.Control Center has a love it or hate it look and the customization options may not go as far as some users would have liked, but there are several neat features hidden within that are an improvement over previous Control Center layouts. For the first time, there’s access to a one-tap Low Power Mode setting, and an Apple TV setting brings up a full Apple TV remote that doesn’t require an app. There’s also a new one-tap screen recording feature that takes a video of whatever you’re doing on the iPhone or iPad, and there are an expanded range of settings that cover everything from Accessibility options to HomeKit, Notes, and Text Size. Users can choose just a few settings, or add every single one.

Files is the new Finder app for iOS 11, and its already about a million times better than the basic file-picker it replaces iCloud Drive. Files is a central place from whoch to access all the files on your iDevice, and in iCloud. You can find, organize, open, and delete all the files on your device, in iCloud, and on 3rd-party storage services like Dropbox. And because this is iOS 11, Files supports all the fancy new multitasking features like drag-and-drop.So, lets take a look at what it can do:Rounding up files is even easier than it is on a Mac.Photo: Cult of MacOf all the new features in iOS 11, Files is still one of the most beta. Its buggy, laggy, and is missing several of the features shown in the 2017 WWDC keynote. Right now, it doesnt even have an entry in the Settings app. But despite this, its already more than useful.

Pirate Bay founder: Weve lost the internet, its all about damage control now
At its inception, the internet was a beautifully idealistic and equal place. But the world sucks and weve continuously made it more and more centralized, taking power away from users and handing it over to big companies. And the worst thing is that we cant fix it we can only make it slightly less awful. That was pretty much the core of Pirate Bays co-founder, Peter Sundes talk at tech festival Brain Bar Budapest. TNW sat down with the pessimistic activist and controversial figure to discuss how screwed we actually are when it comes to decentralizing the internet.Forget about the future, the problem is nowIn Sundes opinion, people focus too much on what might happen, instead of what is happening. He often gets questions about how a digitally bleak future could look like, but the truth is that were living it.
