Apple Inc (AAPL.O) offered a $1 billion bond dedicated to financing clean energy and environmental projects on Tuesday, the first corporate green bond offered since President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris climate agreement. The offering comes over a year after Apple issued its first green bond of $1.5 billion – the largest issued by a U.S. corporation – as a response to the 2015 Paris agreement.Apple said its second green bond is meant to show that businesses are still committed to the goals of the 194-nation accord.“Leadership from the business community is essential to address the threat of climate change and protect our shared planet,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives.Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook was one of several CEOs who directly appealed to Trump to keep the United States in the pact before he made his decision.

ATTORNEY GENERAL Jeff Sessions, one of the first members of the Republican establishment to ally himself with then-candidate Donald Trump, appeared on Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee. In his testimony, Sessions sought to staunch the increasingly rapid flow of embarrassing information from the Trump White House. The attorney general is near the center of multiple controversies dogging Trump. One is the firing of FBI Director James Comey, whoch Sessions recommended in a memo, for reasons that are still unclear. Another is contact between Sessions and Russian ambassador to Washington Sergei Kislyak, whom Sessions has variously claimed he did not meet with during the campaign, met with only twice, and now, perhaps, met with three times. The third alleged meeting with Kislyak, during a campaign event at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, was one of many important particulars that Sessions claimed he could not remember. He answered more than 20 questions with some version of “I don’t recall,” “I don’t recollect,” or “I don’t remember.”

France and the UK pressure internet companies to fight extremism

The British and French have already made separate efforts to limit extremists’ online presences, but they now believe they can accomplish more by working together. The two nations have unveiled a joint campaign to prevent extremists from using the internet as a ”safe space.” They’re vowing to pressure tech firms into doing more (such as better automatic removal tools), and are ”exploring the possibility” of fines and other legal penalties if those companies don’t pull offending material. The joint initiative puts some additional heat on internet giants like Facebook, Google and Twitter, since they know that a policy implemented in one country is more likely to show up in another.

You Can Hack Some Mazda Cars with a USB Flash Drive

EXCLUSIVE — Mazda cars with next-gen Mazda MZD Connect infotainment systems can be hacked just by plugging in a USB flash drive into their dashboard, thanks to a series of bugs that have been known for at least three years. The issues have been discovered and explored by the users of the Mazda3Revolution forum back in May 2014. Since then, the Mazda car owner community has been using these ”hacks” to customize their cars’ infotainment system to tweak settings and install new apps. One of the most well-designed tools is MZD-AIO-TI (MZD All In One Tweaks Installer). The knowledge shared through these two projects has been the base of mazda_getInfo, a project put together by Bugcrowd application security engineer Jay Turla, whoch automates Mazda car hacks.Research started out as a curiositySpeaking to Bleeping Computer, Turla said he started working on the project after recently purchasing a Mazda car.”I just wanted to check what were the possible attack vectors for my car,” Turla told Bleeping. ”I also want to test my car just for my personal research as I enjoyed my first visit at the Car Hacking Village during DEF CON 24 in Vegas last year. I also have a couple of friends in the Philippines who are currently into car hacking research.”
